Particle People::SIM::3/10:: Loco Dice, Martin Buttrich, Livio & Roby

Sound In Motion and Particle People are very proud to join forces and present a night of incredible music! Know that these two promoters plan on making this a memorable night for all, and with a lineup like the main room has, sound, lights, and atmosphere will be set accordingly.
Loco Dice

Every so often a DJ or producer comes along who inspires the collective imagination. If you’ve seen Loco Dice perform at his ten-year-long Tribehouse residency in his hometown Düsseldorf, or at DC-10 in Ibiza (from ’02-’06), you will have clicked to this. Loco Dice is someone who can puzzle together intangible moods with a direct approach. Via his DJ sets or his productions on labels like M_nus, Cadenza, Ovum, Four Twenty and Cocoon, he merges perspectives in his delicate sense for sounds and reflective atmospheres, underpinned with solid, physical grooves inspired by the hip hop that was his early sonic stomping ground in the mid- to late ‘90s. There’s something there for the dreamers, as well as for the 9-to-5ers who just want to lose everything in a moment of abandon on the dancefloor.

Martin Buttrich

Martin Buttrich has been involved in such a large number of productions since his beginnings in Hanover, Germany in 1995, it would give even the most eager of train spotters a difficult time. But by searching him on the web, you won´t be able to find much. Talking to Buttrich, however, you get the sense that he likes it that way. Shy by nature, Buttrich kept his head down working as a traditional studio producer for over a decade, producing records together with acts like Timo Maas and Loco Dice.

So what about Martin himself? In between all these amazing releases and projects he has found time to do stuff under his own name, releasing records on high profile labels such as Planet E, Cocoon and Four:Twenty, as well as putting together a live show.

The result was a string of big records including ‘Full Clip’ his remix of Tracey Thorn’s ‘It’s All True’ and most recently ‘Stoned Autopilot’ for Carl Craig’s Planet E label.
Loco Dice productions began to surface on Four:twenty and Superstar Recordings and took the dark and twisted sound developed for Timo and with Dice's influence stripped it right back to produce a fiercely isolated groove that has come to embody the dominant sound on dance floors in 2006. Loco Dice singles on Josh Wink’s Ovum, Richie Hawtin's Minus and Sven Vath's Cocoon have made Martin Buttrich and Loco Dice productions the number 1 sound right across the world and they are both on the eve of a move to New York in order to start soaking up the city's influence that they then want to translate into an album. The city also inspired Martin and Loco Dice to start their own record label and create a platform for music without blinkers. Desolat Music Group was born in 2007 and Loco Dice's mesmerizing debut "7 Dunham Place" was released in 2008.

But Martin is not only the studio wizard. You can catch him playing live in all serious clubs world wide. His live act includes laptop, several effect boxes, synthesizer and it constantly changes as it's important for Martin to act spontaneously, capture the mood of certain moments and experiment
instead of playing one hit after another.

Livio & Roby

Livio & Roby are two Romanian producers and DJs. They met in 2004, found mutual connection in their musical taste and style and joined forces to become production and DJ partners. With a great understanding of dance music and exceptional production skills they were soon making and remixing tracks on a regular basis. They produced tracks and remixes which appeared on labels such as Desolat, Cecille, Fumakilla, Junior Boy´s Own or Viva.

These two guys have made their own sound, ranging from Deep House and Tech to Detroit Techno. Their project, Monochrome, which also includes George G, brought the band both global prizes at the Heineken Music Thirst Studio Global Session competition in 2006 – The Global Winners and The People’s Choice Award. Being the Romanian winners of the local competition in 2006, 2007 got them in Las Vegas to represent their country and, of course, South Eastern Europe. Magazines like DJ Mag and Juice described their sets at Tao Beach and Tao Club as "highlights of the weekend".

In the beginning of 2008 Roby was awarded as Best Upcoming Artist at the Nights.ro Awards and Livio & Roby were awarded as the Best Producers at South Eastern Europe Music Exhibition Awards. In Romania, they started their own radio show at One FM, where they play two hours alongside their special guests.

By the end of 2007 they saw themselves "trapped" in the studio producing tracks for their first album called Monochrome - "Children of House FWD 01" [Ido Music] which was celebrated in Romania with an amazing album launch party at Studio Martin and will soon be available worldwide. After the success of that night, Studio Martin, the Bucharest legendary club, offered Livio & Roby their own monthly night, a residency that the boys decided to call „Children of House”, as the album. Meanwhile the boys also own residencies in famous clubs like La Mania on the Black Sea coast and Kristal Club in Bucharest.Beside their residencies they´re also players in some of the best known European clubs.

In 2008 they happened to play a set together with Loco Dice in Romania. He was so fascinated by their music and talent, that he decided to make them join the Artist Alife family. Thus they connected also with Desolat, where we surely will be able to hear more in the next time. Livio & Roby : Two very talented guys to keep an eye on in the future.

Italo Business

Based in the Italian "East Coast", the "Italo Business Label Group" becoming a well knowly electronic music pusher thanks to the support and collaboration of many international talented producers.

Xenia Beliayeva

So that we do not misunderstand each other: Xenia Beliayeva is not an easy to enjoy sweet snack, neither as a producer nor as a DJ. Her arrangement of electronic music brings forth the demanding creatures of the night, which approve the sound as a central stylistic medium, but last but not least she adds a further sensual element with the addition of her voice. Not only "Ultra Glamour", but also "Hellraiser", to speak in her song titles. But first lets start from the beginning.

The mid twenties DJ originally comes from Moscow, and since the mid nineties her life has been linked with her deepest passion: music.
Whether in the scope of a traineeship for VIVA TV or a part time job in a CD rental agency in Cologne, as a freelance promoter for renowned labels such as Playhouse, Klang Elektronik and Mute, in the scope of her label management for Lone Records or as product manager of Ladomat for many years, her destiny is bringing her into connection with the music business again and again.

It was only logical therefore that in the course of the years Beliayeva also found her personal musical language. Since the mid nineties initially in the artistic area for private views or similar on the move as a DJ, she opened for Kraftwerk with Laurent Garnier in 1997 and for the centre for art and media technology (ZKM) in Karlsruhe. She then built up a continual presence as a club DJ from 2000 above all in her new home town of Hamburg. In particular her resident event "Kill them all" in the Hamburg Gum Club or her performances in Waagenbau (a nightclub in Hamburg) gained Xenia a reputation as one of the hottest DJ insider tips of the hanseatic city. In the meantime Xenia has a growing international action radius, and so you can hear her more often in club venues between France, Spain, Holland, Ukraine and Brazil or on her internet radio show xenbel on samurai.fm.

Xenia Beliayevas particular recipe for success is her singular mix of concert events and deejaying, which gives her DJ sets a unique result. "I have always sung, and for about four years I have been building my vocals into my deejaying as a central element. Of course I see myself first and foremost as a DJ for electronic music, or Techno to be more precise, but I dont want to limit myself to this role. Im not scared of innovation, experiments and the conscious break from keeping expectations. In this way its possible that in the middle of a techno set I will build in a Ministry record."

Also Beliayevas musical aesthetic as a producer draws up the effect of her incomparable voice. Apart from productions with Andre Winter and the French electro producer Arnaud Caschera (as a joint project of Da Fresh & Xenia Beliayeva for the Plantage 13 label Dance Electric) she became particularly famous with her singles for Anthony Rothers show label Datapunk. Tracks such as "Ultra Glamour", "Chocolate", "Nanotubes", "Hellraiser" and "Wedding & Funeral" as well as her new interpretation of the Rother classic "Dont Worry" make Beliayeva one of the most important ambassadors of the new label sound: powerful and energetic, Beliayeva flirts with industrial noise and in spite of everything remains full of emotion. No wonder that in the meantime even long standing cult figures of electronic music such as Nitzer Ebb singer Douglas McCarthy draw on Beliayevas mixing skills for the current single for the Fixmer/McCarthy project.

The Genius of Fun presents…

B A S S G A S M

5 ROOM SUPER DANCE EVENT!
8 HOUR DJ MARATHON!
ALL HEADLINERS ALL NIGHT!

FRIDAY FEBRUARY 19, 2010

IN DOWNTOWN MINNEAPOLIS!!!

In association with City Pages, First Avenue, Vital Culture, Black, Konkrete Jungle, Too Much Love, Hotdish, Loud N Clear, Technocalypse, Old Skoolin’, & Da Cowboy…

Just look at that flyer -- it looks like something you might have picked off the sidewalk back in downtown Minneapolis in 1996. The Twin Cities' homegrown techno godfather, DJ ESP Woody McBride, clearly has an itch for the good ol' days and we're all about to benefit from it. Sure, it kind of sucks this huge eight-hour dance party can't start at 1 a.m. in some condemned warehouse in the North Loop, but we'll gladly take the alternative: An all-headliners-all-night EDM extravaganza at First Avenue, the place that helped birth ESP's career back in the days of Radio Depth Probe with Kevin Cole.

We expect the vibe (you can't talk rave without it, sorry) will be something like Sunday Night Dance Party or System 33 back in the late '90s but with one or two major differences: First, the main attractions are worldwide dance music superstars (Derrick Carter from Chicago and Dieselboy from Philly) and secondly, you probably won't be able to clearly see the person next to you due to the massive vibration from bass that will have everyone bouncing like wind-up toys. Sound like a fun time? We thought so, but wanted to know more, so here's the 411 from ESP himself...

Denis Jeong Plaster for City Pages

Gimme Noise: What are you hoping this party will accomplish?

Woody McBride: This is an eight hour DJ and dance marathon. All headliners all night in five areas - a wonderful opportunity for everyone involved. This party is all about fun and excitement and good dance music of all shapes, sizes and styles. I am a techno DJ but I love and respect all styles of EDM and so should YOU! This is an early until late event. I want people to come out and dance all night  at this ritual of fun, meditation, soul searching, and getting crazy! I have been very blessed with having to get to play my music all over the world. Part of giving back to my roots and continuum of fine dance music here in the TC is to share some of the special energy I have been exposed to. It will be great.

GN: How did you decide on the headliners?

Derrick Carter and Dieselboy are the best at what they do in America - maybe in the world - and it is an honor for us to share in their art form. And it goes deeper than that: Minneapolis, as far as the rest of the world is concerned, is home to several of the finest techno producers - The Attack People aka Dustin Zahn and Ian Lehman as well as James Patrick of Time Fog. And I suppose yours truly. Why look further when you have top shelf talent here? As this has become a techno city, I had to bring in some special surprises - Ciaglia from Indianapolis is one of America's next female DJ Stars - a master at DJing spacey minimal and tribal dance music that seems to flutter in from Never Never Land. From Detroit, there are is a collective of people that capture the spririt of the American underground - Detroit Techno Militia. And then there is the TC's biggest DJ, Soviet Panda, that is often overlooked by the scene per se but his draw and mixing style speaks for itself - he rocks every Saturday. The Midwest is also home to the nation's finest psytrance, so I brought the whole Mindoutpsyde crew up from Iowa with their DJs, their deco and their PLUR. Last but not least. Minneapolis is home to America's biggest happy hardcore deejay, DJ Spree, and his MC from Omaha - they light it up like any great performer ever. And DJ Vaski is a dub step phenomenon DJ/producer who is exploding here and everywhere - his music is something else, comparable to Bassnectar but with no fluff. I could keep going... all night all headliners. Down the rabbit hole we go.

GN: Tell us about a favorite memory you have with one of the headliners.

Whew... Derrick Carter showing up with the Superstars of Love to one of my parties looking like a cast from a '70s disco movie. His three deck layering of Prince records over the top of Chicago Jack records over the top of deep soul was boggling. As for Dieselboy, he launched an archetypal dance music historical moment in the Shawnee Cave in Southern illinois for 3,000 superfans years ago, taking five minutes to build up what was the most tension I have ever felt before. The beat and the bass dropped on a pretty good sized wall of speakers as a Superbowl-sized lazerbeam sliced through the air. My hair is still on end.

GN: Why First Avenue?

The people that work there are my friends and love my style of honest, affordable, rugged and loud dance music events. I love them back. I got my start at First Avenue and we are having ton's of fun. First Ave. supports some great independent dance music promoters in the TC and this show is the first time we have joined forces to create a super-club environment like they do in Europe and elsewhere. You can enjoy multiple styles of music, hang out with your friends, eat, drink and have fun all for one price. It is how it should be - the human experience is complex with a full spectrum of emotions and there is a style of EDM that will enhance, heal or harmonize with that feeling.

GN: Tell us about the sound system.

It will be one of the best walls we have ever done for a number of reasons: the technology of sound equipment has improved, and the technology of DJ equipment has improved. Less noise, more ooomph. It will be big and clean and magical. All the rooms will have fortified sound systems and the music that is programmed is bass-oriented music.

OVERVIEW:

Droid presents Audio Injection’s long awaited release of THE WAY I AM via Droid Digital 03. Previously a DJ tool for Droid artists only,THE WAY I AM has perked the ears of international DJs, trainspotters, and hardcore fans alike for nearly a year now. For this release, Audio Injection, who’s garnered well deserved attention for his fierce and funky productions including hit singles and remixes on Droid, 4trak, CLR and Lazerslut, has hand-picked some of his favorite producers to provide their own treatments to his track’s undeniable groove and self-affirming vocal.

Audio Injection – The Way I Am (original mix)

The Way I Am – original flavor, the mix that started it all. This track is classic Audio Injection – a perfect blend of huge bass, swinging rhythms, and well timed vocal drops arranged to move crowds in any club situation.

Audio Injection – The Way I Am (Acid Circus Way IT IS mix)

Resident jack masters Acid Circus lock the original’s flowing modern thump in a tight box and throw away the key. The Way I Am finds itself in a machine-locked and analog fueled groove designed to snap necks.

Audio Injection – The Way I Am (Monoloc mix)

Monoloc turns out a dark and heavy builder for a massive crowd 30 stories below the Eastern Bloc.

Audio Injection – The Way I Am (Miro Pajic mix)

With the most unique-sounding mix on the EP, Miro Pajic sells a designer mind trip with haunting re-verb, eerie stereo effects, and an otherworldly vibes reminiscent of Spicelab’s Harthouse releases.

Audio Injection – The Way I Am (Rene Walther mix)

Rising Dominican talent Rene Walther re-sequences a faster, tougher dance floor version of the original. Less melody, More techno.

Zarbeat - Siteholder, Diffusion - Chicago
Raul Rodriguez was born and raised in the biggest city of the world, Mexico City, where he started as dj in local underground party’s back in 1996. Eventually he began to gain the experience necessary to take him to play along with national and international figures such as Paul Van Dyk, Hard Floor, Dj coccyx, Praga Kan,Martin Parra,Acid Maria,Infected Mushhrom,Dj Klang,Marusha,Green Velvet and the list goes on. He studied music and arts for a short period at the national school of art, right before he moved on to United States. Once in Chicago his new home he decides to retake his carrier not only as dj but as producer; focusing on a blend between hard techno and Minimal. Becoming one of the very few Mexicans in the scene his dj sets became more challenging and entertaining opening at people such as Monoblock (Archipel) Camea (Clink Recordings)Marcos Romero, Angel Alanis(clientele Records) ,Sashmouth,Itzone(Dirtybird ) and more. He went from two turntables to 3 and eventually 4 using samplers, digital hardware, and visual arts with the help of Lorena Padilla (Difusion Records C.E.O and Vj) o the .
